vivo X Fold5 Review: Battery and Cameras Give Samsung Real Competition

Reviewed phone vivo X Fold5
PhonicSpecs editorial score 9.0/10 editorial Editorial assessment — not a user or customer rating.

Verdict

The vivo X Fold5 is one of the most complete hardware-focused foldables available. Its battery, charging, camera system and thin design directly address common foldable weaknesses, although Funtouch OS and limited market availability keep Samsung ahead in software polish and reach.

The vivo X Fold5 attacks the traditional weaknesses of book-style foldables more aggressively than most competitors. Despite a thin chassis, it carries a 6,000mAh battery, giving it a substantial endurance advantage over foldables that remain stuck around 4,400mAh. Charging is equally strong at 80W wired and 40W wireless.

The display hardware is premium on both sides. The 8.03-inch LTPO foldable AMOLED provides the tablet-like experience buyers expect, while the 6.53-inch cover screen works comfortably as a regular phone display. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is no longer the newest silicon, but it remains more than fast enough for multitasking and gaming.

vivo also treats cameras seriously. The X Fold5 uses 50MP sensors for the main, ultrawide and 3x ZEISS telephoto, giving it better photographic flexibility than many foldables. Published hands-on testing has highlighted the telephoto as a particular advantage over Samsung’s foldable camera setup.

The main compromise is software and availability. Funtouch OS offers useful multitasking tools but does not feel as mature as Samsung’s foldable software, and the phone is not sold widely in every major market. Where supported, however, the X Fold5 is a formidable foldable.

Buying advice

Buy the X Fold5 if you can get reliable regional support and prioritize battery, charging and cameras in a foldable. Samsung remains the safer choice for buyers who value the most mature multitasking ecosystem and broader availability.
