Xiaomi 15 Review: Compact Size Without Compact Ambition

Verdict

The Xiaomi 15 is one of the strongest compact Android flagships available. It delivers big-phone performance and battery life in a smaller chassis, although HyperOS bloat, heat under sustained load and an average ultrawide prevent it from being the safest mainstream choice.

Small Android flagships often force buyers to compromise on battery capacity or camera hardware. The Xiaomi 15 takes a different approach. Its 6.36-inch LTPO AMOLED keeps the body relatively compact, yet Xiaomi still fits a 5,240mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Elite and a triple-camera Leica system.

That combination makes the phone unusually capable for its size. The 50MP main camera is joined by a 50MP floating telephoto around 2.6x and a 50MP ultrawide. The main and telephoto cameras are the stars, giving the phone genuine photographic flexibility without requiring an oversized Ultra chassis.

Charging is another advantage. Xiaomi supports 90W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge, far beyond what most compact premium rivals offer. Performance is similarly strong, although heavy gaming can generate noticeable heat because the smaller body has less room to dissipate sustained loads.

HyperOS is the main reason the Xiaomi 15 is not an automatic recommendation. It is fast and customizable but comes with more complexity and pre-installed software than cleaner Android implementations. Buyers willing to tune the software will find a rare combination of size, speed, battery life and camera capability that few compact phones can match.

Buying advice

Buy the Xiaomi 15 if you want a smaller flagship without sacrificing battery, performance or telephoto capability. Choose a Galaxy or Pixel instead if cleaner software and more predictable long-term ownership matter more.
