The iPhone 17 Pro Max is Apple’s strongest large-screen iPhone to date, pairing superb A19 Pro performance with a bright 6.9-inch 120Hz OLED display, excellent battery life and a much more capable triple-48MP camera system. Its biggest weaknesses are familiar: high pricing, substantial weight and an AI experience that still trails the most ambitious Android rivals. For Apple ecosystem users, however, it is an exceptionally polished flagship.

Buying advice

Choose the iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want the best battery life, camera flexibility and sustained performance available in Apple’s current iPhone range. It makes the most sense for users upgrading from an older Pro Max or anyone deeply invested in Apple devices and services. Recent iPhone 16 Pro Max owners should upgrade only if the improved telephoto system, thermal performance or battery gains matter enough to justify the cost.
